Chiefs at SeahawksSUNDAY NIGHT · Lumen Field, Seattle

Read of Wed Oct 21, before the first practice report. Sunday Oct 25, 5:20 PM PT · NBC · market Seahawks −2.5, total 42.5 (DraftKings via ESPN, frozen at the board fetch Oct 21, 7:43 AM PT) · Mack: Chiefs by 1.6, Chiefs to cover, Over. Chiefs 5-0, Seahawks 3-3.
On this page
The readKansas City is 5-0 and the market still has the Chiefs as road underdogs; Mack's line has them winning by 1.6, a 4.1-point edge against Seahawks −2.5, the biggest reason this game is on the page. The engine is a former Seahawk: Kenneth Walker III, Super Bowl MVP for Seattle in February, has 665 rushing yards at 6.3 a carry for the Chiefs, behind a line that has allowed 6 sacks. The case for Seattle is its front, 16 sacks and 37 tackles for loss, against a Chiefs left side with Josh Simmons questionable. The case against Seattle is its quarterback: Darnold's 4.7% interception rate is the worst of the league's 32 leading passers, and the Chiefs have 9 takeaways to Seattle's 12 giveaways. Ryota saw this Seattle team up close in Denver on Oct 15; it has since gone to 3-3.
⚠ Availability alert

No Wednesday practice report yet when this was written (ESPN's injury feed last updated Tuesday Oct 20). The statuses below are ESPN's projected designations for Sunday; re-check after Wednesday's and Thursday's reports.

Chiefs: LT Josh Simmons (back) and WR Rashee Rice (hamstring) are QUESTIONABLE; ESPN's depth chart has rookie Kahlil Benson behind Simmons and already starting at right tackle, with Jaylon Moore (concussion, left the Chargers game) also QUESTIONABLE. WR Tyquan Thornton is on IR (ankle), so if Rice sits the receivers are Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals. LB Cooper McDonald (knee) was designated to return from IR Tuesday.

Seahawks: RB Zach Charbonnet is listed OUT (knee, ACL) but Mike Macdonald said Monday he is slated for "a full week of work" and has "a good chance" to play Sunday. LB Drake Thomas (ankle, 35 tackles) and LB Chazz Surratt (calf) are QUESTIONABLE; Tyrice Knight started for Thomas against Denver. TE Elijah Arroyo (shoulder) is OUT for "significant time"; RB Jadarian Price is on IR (chest) with a return targeted after this game; G Anthony Bradford (knee) was designated to return from IR Monday.

Sources: ESPN injury feeds for both teams (sports.core.api.espn.com, fetched Oct 21, latest entries Oct 20), quoting Macdonald via reporters (Oct 19) and the Seahawks' and AtoZSports' Chiefs reporting; ESPN depth charts fetched Oct 21.

1

Kenneth Walker III vs. the team he won a title with

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
RB Kenneth Walker III — 106 car, 665 yds (6.3), 6 TD, long 76 · 14 rec, 95 yds, 2 TD · RB Emmett Johnson 19 car, 62 yds
Seahawks
LB Ernest Jones IV 59 tackles, 3 sacks · LB Drake Thomas 35 tackles, 4 TFL QUESTIONABLE · DT Byron Murphy II 5 TFL · DE Leonard Williams 6 TFL

This is the matchup of the game. Walker has 133 rushing yards a game and the Chiefs run for 5.5 a carry as a team. Seattle's front has 37 tackles for loss, but Walker is the league's leader in forced missed tackles (PFF through Week 3), and if Thomas sits Seattle is down its second-leading tackler. Edge to the back.

2

Seattle's pass rush vs. a Chiefs line with a questionable left tackle

Even
Chiefs
LT Josh Simmons QUESTIONABLE (back) · LG Kingsley Suamataia · C Creed Humphrey · RG Trey Smith · RT Kahlil Benson (rookie) · OT Jaylon Moore QUESTIONABLE — 6 sacks allowed
Seahawks
DE Leonard Williams 3 sacks · DT Byron Murphy II 3 · LB Ernest Jones IV 3 · LB Derick Hall 2 · S Nick Emmanwori 2 — 16 team sacks

Mahomes has been sacked on 3.7% of dropbacks, 4th-best among the 32 leading passers, and Seattle has twice as many sacks as Kansas City in one more game. Benson already starts at right tackle per ESPN's depth chart; if Simmons sits, the backup tackle depth is the swing.

3

Mahomes vs. Seattle's secondary

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
QB Patrick Mahomes — 105/158, 1,309 yds, 9 TD, 3 INT, 103.1 rating, 8.3 yds/att
Seahawks
CB Devon Witherspoon 37 tackles, 3 PD · CB Josh Jobe 1 INT · CB Nehemiah Pritchett 2 INT, 4 PD · S Julian Love 2 INT, 6 PD · S Ty Okada

Seattle has 7 interceptions and 26 passes defended. Mahomes is 7th in rating and 5th in yards per attempt among the leading passers; against the Chargers he went 23 of 30 for 272 yards (ESPN, Oct 18). Edge to the quarterback.

4

Darnold vs. Kansas City's ball hawks

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
CB Nohl Williams 6 PD, 1 sack · CB Mansoor Delane 1 INT, 3 PD · NB L'Jarius Sneed 30 tackles, 3 PD · S Alohi Gilman · S Chamarri Conner · S Xavier Nwankpa 1 INT
Seahawks
QB Sam Darnold — 90/149, 1,033 yds, 7 TD, 7 INT, 77.4 rating (5 games) · backup Drew Lock 35/48, 422 yds, 4 TD

Darnold has thrown an interception on 4.7% of his attempts, last of the 32 leading passers, and was 27 of 51 with two picks in Denver (ESPN, Oct 15). The Chiefs have 5 interceptions and 27 passes defended. Clearest edge on the page.

5

Jaxon Smith-Njigba vs. the Chiefs' corners

Edge: Seahawks
Chiefs
CB Nohl Williams · CB Mansoor Delane · NB L'Jarius Sneed · CB Kristian Fulton 1 INT
Seahawks
WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba — 49 rec, 717 yds, 7 TD on 65 targets, long 82 · WR Cooper Kupp 16 rec, 179 yds · WR Rashid Shaheed 14 rec, 162 yds

Smith-Njigba leads the league in receiving yards (ESPN leaders, Oct 21) at 119.5 a game and had 12 catches for 134 yards against Denver; he has almost half of Seattle's receiving yards. The Chiefs have no corner with numbers to match his.

6

Chiefs receivers vs. Seattle's coverage

Even
Chiefs
TE Travis Kelce 20 rec, 299 yds, 2 TD · WR Xavier Worthy 21 rec, 206 yds · WR Rashee Rice 13 rec, 190 yds QUESTIONABLE · WR Tyquan Thornton IR · WR Cyrus Allen 2 rec, 27 yds
Seahawks
CB Devon Witherspoon · CB Josh Jobe · NB Nick Emmanwori · S Julian Love 6 PD

With Thornton on IR and Rice questionable, the Chiefs' passing game is Kelce, Worthy and Walker out of the backfield. Seattle's defensive backs have 5 of its 7 interceptions. Even until Rice's status is known.

7

Seattle's run game vs. the Chiefs' front

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
DT Chris Jones 13 tackles · DE George Karlaftis 4 TFL, 4 PD · LB Nick Bolton 48 tackles · LB Drue Tranquill 36 tackles, 5 TFL
Seahawks
RB Emanuel Wilson 87 car, 303 yds (3.5), 2 TD · RB George Holani 31 car, 97 yds · RB Zach Charbonnet OUT (ESPN), "good chance" per Macdonald · RB Jadarian Price IR

Seattle runs for 107.2 a game at 3.9 a carry and has lost 5 fumbles on runs. Charbonnet's return would help; Wilson at 3.5 a carry has not.

8

Tight ends

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
TE Travis Kelce 20 rec, 299 yds, 2 TD · TE Noah Gray 9 rec, 114 yds
Seahawks
TE AJ Barner 15 rec, 138 yds · TE Eric Saubert 1 TD · TE Elijah Arroyo OUT

Kelce averages 14.9 a catch; Barner 9.2. Arroyo's shoulder costs Seattle its second tight end.

9

Kickers

Edge: Seahawks
Chiefs
PK Harrison Butker — 10 of 13, long 50, 14 of 15 PAT
Seahawks
PK Jason Myers — 12 of 13, long 57, 14 of 15 PAT

Myers has made 3 of 3 from 50-plus; Butker 1 of 4. In a game priced near a field goal, that matters.

10

Punters

Edge: Chiefs
Chiefs
P Matt Araiza — 52.4 gross, 46.6 net, 9 of 14 inside the 20
Seahawks
P Michael Dickson — 43.7 gross, 42.4 net, 11 of 25 inside the 20

Araiza is four yards better net, but has punted 14 times in five games; the Chiefs do not punt much.

11

Returners

Edge: Seahawks
Chiefs
KR/PR Nikko Remigio 25.4 KR, 5.7 PR · KR Emmett Johnson 27.3 KR
Seahawks
KR/PR Rashid Shaheed — 27.3 KR (16), 9.8 PR (12)

Kick returns are even; Seattle gains four more yards a punt return (team 10.1 to 5.7).

Mahomes or Darnold? both starters against the other teams' leading passers, through Week 6

Answer: Mahomes is top ten in almost everything; Darnold is bottom ten in rating and last in interception rate. Against the league's 32 leading passers, Mahomes ranks 7th in passer rating (103.1), 5th in yards per attempt (8.3) and 4th-best in sack rate (3.7%). Darnold ranks 27th in rating (77.4) and 32nd in interception rate (4.7%), and his sack rate (8.6%) is 25th. Neither is a big runner. This is the gap the market is giving Seattle points to cover.

Missed tackles Walker against his old team

The one tackling number that matters here belongs to the runner. Through three games Kenneth Walker III had forced 35 missed tackles, "the most in the NFL by eight, according to PFF," and Next Gen Stats had him as the only player with 10 or more in a single game, which he had done three times (A to Z Sports, Sept. 28). He has run for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries since, against the Chargers (ESPN, Oct 18).

Seattle's tacklers. Linebacker Ernest Jones IV leads Seattle with 59 tackles and nickel Nick Emmanwori has 23; if Drake Thomas (35 tackles) cannot go, Tyrice Knight takes his snaps. Seattle allows its opponents' backs nothing like 6.3 a carry, but no Seattle opponent has had Walker.

Walker: atozsports.com, Charles Goldman, Sept. 28, 2026 (PFF and NFL Next Gen Stats figures). Tackles: ESPN season statistics, Oct 21. Team missed-tackle totals for 2026 were not found from a dated source this session and are left out.

Reassessment Mack's board pick, frozen at the Oct 21 fetch

Mack's pick: Chiefs straight up (55%), Chiefs against the spread, and the Over. Ratings line Chiefs by 0.8; with one-week injury hits, Chiefs by 1.6. The market has Seattle −2.5, a 4.1-point edge, clear of the 2-point flag. The total edge is +2.3 (Mack 44.8 against 42.5), also over the flag. These numbers are frozen as of the board fetch, Oct 21 at 7:43 AM PT.

Falsifier. If Simmons is out and Seattle's front gets home early (the Seahawks had 16 sacks in six games; the Chiefs have allowed 6 in five), the Chiefs' edge is mostly gone. If Wednesday and Thursday list Simmons and Rice as full participants, the pick stands.

Mack's view (judgment, not the formula). The market is pricing Seattle's home field and last season's title; the numbers this season say the better offense, the better quarterback and the cleaner turnover sheet are all on the visiting sideline.
