Sunday Night Football, Sunday Nov 1 · 5:20 PM PT · NBC. Market Commanders −5.5, total 40.5 (DraftKings via ESPN, frozen at the board build) · Mack's line Commanders −6.0, Commanders 67%. Eagles 2-5 on a five-game losing streak, Commanders 1-4-1 off their bye.

The readWashington is the home team, and it is the healthier one at quarterback: Jayden Daniels threw for 300 yards against San Francisco two weeks ago while Philadelphia starts Tanner McKee for the third time with Jalen Hurts on injured reserve for the season. The Eagles' five straight losses have come with an offense scoring 18.1 points a game and a defense that just gave up 204 rushing yards to Dallas without a sack, a tackle for loss or a quarterback hit. Washington has its own problems: Terry McLaurin went on IR Wednesday, the line has allowed a sack on 6.5% of dropbacks, and the defense allows 28.7 points a game, the worst in the league through the first five weeks by NFL.com's count. Mack's ratings make it Commanders −6.0 and 67%, a half point past the market; the pick is Washington on the spread and the Over on 40.5, and the one thing that would change it is Saquon Barkley's back.
⚠ Skill-position alert

No Week 8 practice report had been posted by either team when this page was written (team news pages fetched Wednesday Oct 28; the Eagles' most recent item was Monday's game recap, the Commanders' was the McLaurin IR move at 12:14 PM). ESPN's injury page, fetched Oct 28, carries the Eagles' Monday-night fallout: Saquon Barkley (RB, hamstring and back) is QUESTIONABLE after leaving the Dallas game; he said Tuesday his hamstring "came out great" and ESPN's note says the back issue is not expected to keep him out Sunday. Sirianni after the game: "Obviously, you saw that he was on a pitch count out there today… we tried to be smart with him" (Pro Football Talk, Oct 27). Dameon Pierce (RB) left Monday with 8:38 to play and did not return, QUESTIONABLE; Elijah Mitchell finished the game. DeVonta Smith (WR, hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (WR, ankle) were both ruled out against Dallas after not practicing all week and are QUESTIONABLE; so are Nolan Smith Jr. (LB, concussion, out Monday), Michael Carter II (CB, abdomen) and returner Britain Covey (WR, knee, ruled out in the first quarter Monday). Quinyon Mitchell was hurt on a second-quarter play Monday (philadelphiaeagles.com recap, Oct 27) and is not on ESPN's list.

Jalen Hurts (QB) is on IR with an estimated return of Feb 15: a superficial blood clot in his calf, found Oct 10 after he was cleated against the Rams, and ESPN's Oct 19 note adds clots in his lungs, with Hurts expected to be held out of football activities for months. Lane Johnson (RT) retired Oct 6 and Cam Jurgens was traded to Houston a day later (NFL.com, Oct 17), so Markel Bell and Drew Kendall start at right tackle and center. Landon Dickerson (G, knee) was activated from IR Monday along with TEs Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers (philadelphiaeagles.com, Oct 26). RBs Tank Bigsby (abdomen, eligible Nov 8) and Will Shipley (foot) and CB Jakorian Bennett (knee) remain on IR.

Washington's side: Terry McLaurin (WR, torn patellar tendon) was placed on IR Wednesday and "will miss the rest of the 2026 season" per Dan Quinn; Van Jefferson was signed from the practice squad and DT Jer'Zhan Newton (pectoral, out since camp) was designated to return, opening his 21-day window (commanders.com, Oct 28). Quinn said Monday that rookie Antonio Williams gets more of McLaurin's targets while Stefon Diggs' workload "isn't expected to increase" (Yahoo Sports and commanders.com, Oct 26). Marcus Mariota (QB, MCL sprain), Charles Omenihu (DE, groin) and Treylon Burks (WR) are all on the same return-to-practice timeline this week; Javon Kinlaw (DT, knee) is "not trending as fast as we had hoped" and left the 49ers game in the first half. ESPN lists Mariota, Omenihu and Kinlaw QUESTIONABLE. RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin, team rushing leader) and LT Laremy Tunsil (triceps) are on IR, so Rachaad White, Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols split the carries and Brandon Coleman plays left tackle.

Saquon Barkley (if he plays) vs. Washington's run defense

Edge: Eagles
Eagles
RB Saquon Barkley 43 car, 244 yds (5.7), 1 TD QUESTIONABLE (hamstring/back) · RB Dameon Pierce 37 car, 96 yds (2.6), 2 TD QUESTIONABLE · RB Elijah Mitchell 3 car, 11 yds · RB Tank Bigsby IR (eligible Nov 8)
Commanders
LB Sonny Styles 46 tackles, 3 TFL · LB Frankie Luvu 26 tackles (4 games) · NT Daron Payne 14 tackles, 2 TFL · DT Javon Kinlaw QUESTIONABLE (knee) · DE Tim Settle · S Nick Cross 3 TFL (3 games)

Barkley had 62 yards on 7 carries Monday, including a 29-yard run and the opening touchdown, before his back ended his night; the Eagles' other backs average 2.6 and 3.3 a carry. Washington allows 100.5 rushing yards a game at a rate SI ranks 31st in opponent rush success, and Kinlaw's knee is not improving. The edge is Barkley's and only Barkley's: if Wednesday's report says no, this row flips.

2

Tanner McKee vs. Washington's pass defense

Even
Eagles
QB Tanner McKee — 49/80, 426 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT, 78.4 rating in two starts; 23/35, 211 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT vs. Dallas · backups Joe Milton, Cole Payton · Jalen Hurts IR
Commanders
CB Rasul Douglas 1 INT, 5 PD · NB Amik Robertson 40 tackles, 8 PD · CB Trey Amos (starter, ESPN depth chart) · S Jeremy Reaves 40 tackles, 3 PD · S Quan Martin · LB Sonny Styles 1 INT, 4 PD

Washington gives up 254 passing yards a game and 7.1 is the league's ask; it has 3 interceptions and 26 passes defended in six games. McKee's 5.3 yards an attempt would be last among the 32 teams' leading passers, and he threw a late interception to DeMarvion Overshown Monday. A bad pass defense against a quarterback who does not push the ball: even.

3

Jayden Daniels vs. the Eagles' pass rush

Edge: Commanders
Eagles
DT Jalen Carter 3 sacks, 5 TFL, 3 FF · OLB Nolan Smith Jr. 3 sacks, 4 TFL QUESTIONABLE (concussion) · LB Jihaad Campbell 1 sack · NT Jordan Davis 0.5 · OLB Jonathan Greenard (ankle, Week 7) · OLB Jalyx Hunt · OLB Arnold Ebiketie — team 8 sacks in 7 games
Commanders
QB Jayden Daniels — 75/116, 759 yds, 5 TD, 0 INT, 97.6 rating in 4 games; 25 car, 213 yds (8.5), 2 TD · 29/40, 300 yds, 2 TD, sacked 4 times vs. SF · backup Athan Kaliakmanis; Marcus Mariota QUESTIONABLE

The Eagles have 8 sacks in seven games and had none, no tackle for loss and no quarterback hit against Dallas. Daniels has been sacked 10 times in four games and faced a career-high 39.3% pressure rate at San Francisco (Next Gen Stats via the Inquirer), but he has not thrown an interception and went 22 of 30 for 212 yards after halftime there. The defense that cannot get home meets the quarterback who runs for 8.5 a carry.

4

Washington's run game vs. the Eagles' run defense

Edge: Commanders
Eagles
LB Zack Baun 51 tackles, 5 TFL, 5 PD (team lead) · LB Jihaad Campbell 49 tackles · S Andrew Mukuba 38 · NT Jordan Davis · DE Moro Ojomo 2 TFL · DT Jalen Carter 5 TFL
Commanders
RB Rachaad White 36 car, 145 yds (4.0); 14 rec, 83 yds, 2 TD · RB Austin Ekeler 8 car, 31 yds · RB Jeremy McNichols 5 car, 13 yds · QB Jayden Daniels 213 rush yds · RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt 67 car, 239 yds, 2 TD IR

Washington runs for 125.2 yards a game at 4.6 a carry even with its leading rusher on IR, though the backs managed 53 on 17 carries at San Francisco. Philadelphia allows 131.4 a game, had Javonte Williams go for 155 on 25 carries Monday, and has the third-most missed tackles in the league (49, PFR via BetMGM). Daniels' legs are the difference in this row.

5

Diggs, Antonio Williams and Okonkwo vs. the Eagles' secondary

Edge: Eagles
Eagles
CB Quinyon Mitchell 35 tackles, 1 INT, 8 PD (hurt Monday, not on ESPN's list) · CB Riq Woolen 6 PD, 1 FF · NB Cooper DeJean 45 tackles, 1 INT, 5 PD · S Andrew Mukuba 1 INT · S Marcus Epps · CB Kelee Ringo · CB Michael Carter II QUESTIONABLE
Commanders
WR Stefon Diggs 24 rec, 214 yds, 4 TD on 38 targets · WR Antonio Williams 18 rec, 205 yds, 1 TD · TE Chig Okonkwo 15 rec, 150 yds (7 for 69 vs. SF) · WR Treylon Burks 9 rec, 152 yds, 2 TD (16.9) · WR Dyami Brown · WR Terry McLaurin 15 rec, 230 yds IR

Without McLaurin, Washington's targets go to Diggs (8.9 yards a catch, four touchdowns) and the rookie Williams, whom Quinn named Monday as the one who gets more work. The Eagles' corners have 19 passes defended between Mitchell, Woolen and DeJean, and the unit held Dak Prescott to 15 completions Monday. Mitchell's second-quarter injury is the thing to check Wednesday.

6

The Eagles' receivers vs. Washington's corners

Even
Eagles
WR DeVonta Smith 26 rec, 310 yds, 2 TD QUESTIONABLE (hamstring) · WR Dontayvion Wicks 19 rec, 284 yds (14.9) QUESTIONABLE (ankle) · WR Makai Lemon 25 rec, 194 yds, 1 TD (7 for 67 Monday) · WR Darius Cooper 9 rec, 156 yds, 4 TD · WR Hollywood Brown 2 rec, 30 yds
Commanders
CB Rasul Douglas 26 tackles, 1 INT, 5 PD · CB Trey Amos · NB Amik Robertson 8 PD, 1 FF · CB Mike Sainristil · S Jeremy Reaves 3 PD · S Nick Cross

Smith and Wicks missed Monday and were out all week before it; without them the Eagles threw 33 times for 211 yards, with the rookie Lemon as the target. Cooper has four touchdowns on nine catches, which is the one explosive element left. Washington's corners have one interception, Douglas', and Robertson leads the team in passes defended from the slot. If Smith and Wicks return, this leans Eagles; today it is even.

7

Washington's pass rush vs. the Eagles' rebuilt line

Edge: Commanders
Eagles
LT Jordan Mailata · LG Landon Dickerson (activated from IR Oct 26) · C Drew Kendall · RG Tyler Steen · RT Markel Bell · Lane Johnson retired Oct 6 — 18 sacks allowed, 119 yds
Commanders
OLB Odafe Oweh 3 sacks, 4 TFL (1 sack vs. SF) · OLB K'Lavon Chaisson 2.5 sacks, 2 FF · DT Shy Tuttle (1 sack vs. SF) · NT Daron Payne 1 sack · DE Dorance Armstrong · DE Charles Omenihu QUESTIONABLE (groin) · DT Jer'Zhan Newton IR, 21-day window opened Oct 28

Philadelphia has allowed 18 sacks in seven games, the most of any team in this game's two leading-passer lines, and lost its right tackle to retirement and its center to a trade in October. Washington has only 11 sacks but gets Omenihu back to practice this week and Newton started his return window Wednesday. Dickerson's return is the Eagles' one piece of good news up front.

8

The Eagles' pass rush vs. Washington's line

Even
Eagles
DT Jalen Carter 3 sacks, 3 FF · OLB Nolan Smith Jr. 3 sacks QUESTIONABLE · LB Jihaad Campbell 1 sack, 1 FF · OLB Jonathan Greenard · OLB Jalyx Hunt · OLB Arnold Ebiketie 22 tackles, 0 sacks
Commanders
LT Brandon Coleman · LG Chris Paul · C Lucas Patrick · RG Sam Cosmi · RT Josh Conerly Jr. (6 penalties, tied for most among linemen) · LT Laremy Tunsil IR (triceps) — 14 sacks allowed, 85 yds

Washington's line allows a sack on 6.5% of dropbacks (Inquirer, Oct 28), gave up four at San Francisco and plays without Tunsil. The Eagles have the worse pass rush by count, 8 sacks, with half of them from Carter and Nolan Smith, and Smith is in the concussion protocol. A bad line against a rush that produced nothing Monday: even, and Carter is the one who can tilt it.

9

Tight ends

Edge: Eagles
Eagles
TE Dallas Goedert 22 rec, 228 yds, 2 TD on 31 targets (5 for 48 Monday) · TE Johnny Mundt 4 rec, 16 yds · TE Zach Ertz 3 rec, 22 yds · TE Grant Calcaterra, Eli Stowers activated Oct 26
Commanders
TE Chig Okonkwo 15 rec, 150 yds on 20 targets (7 for 69 vs. SF) · TE John Bates 5 rec, 27 yds · TE Ben Sinnott · TE Colson Yankoff

Goedert caught two touchdowns against Washington in Week 1 (4 for 77) and is McKee's most reliable target with Smith and Wicks sidelined. Okonkwo had his best game at San Francisco and will see more with McLaurin gone, but Goedert's production and the matchup history give Philadelphia the row.

10

Kickers

Edge: Eagles
Eagles
PK Jake Elliott — 5 of 5, long 58, 2 of 2 from 50-plus; 16 of 16 PAT
Commanders
PK Drew Stevens — 10 of 12, long 57; 10 of 13 PAT (missed one in Week 1 against the Eagles)

Elliott has not missed anything this season; Stevens has missed two field goals and three extra points, one of which was the difference in the first meeting, a 24–22 game that ended on a failed two-point try. Stevens has attempted seven more field goals because Washington stalls in the red zone.

11

Punters

Even
Eagles
P Braden Mann — 36 punts, 47.9 gross, 42.5 net, 17 inside the 20 (3 of 3 inside the 20 Monday)
Commanders
P Tress Way — 28 punts, 48.8 gross, 42.7 net, long 60, 10 inside the 20 (52.0 average at SF)

A yard apart on gross and two tenths on net. Mann pins nearly half his punts inside the 20 and has punted eight more times, which says more about the Eagles' offense than about him.

12

Returners

Edge: Commanders
Eagles
KR/PR Britain Covey 21.3 KR, 12.6 PR (14 returns) QUESTIONABLE (knee) · KR Dameon Pierce QUESTIONABLE, Elijah Mitchell (handled kickoffs Monday) · PR Makai Lemon next up
Commanders
KR Rachaad White 28.1 KR (7) · KR Luke McCaffrey 25.4 KR · PR Antonio Williams · Jaylin Lane 24.6 KR, 12.0 PR IR (ankle)

Washington averages 25.9 a kick return as a team to Philadelphia's 20.1, and White has the longest return of either side at 38 yards. Covey is the Eagles' best returner in both phases and left Monday's game in the first quarter; Lemon and Mitchell are the fallback.

Where is Tanner McKee? his 2026 numbers, two starts, set against the 32 teams' leading passers through Week 7

Answer: last in the league in yards per attempt, careful with the ball, and two games is all we have. McKee is not the Eagles' leading passer (Hurts still is, with 933 yards), so the table slots him into the 32-man list of each team's leader and asks where he would rank. His 5.3 yards an attempt would be 33rd of 33, below Jacoby Brissett and Cam Ward at 5.7; his 78.4 rating would be 28th. His interception rate (1.2%) would be top ten, and he is sacked at roughly the league-median rate behind a line that has allowed 18. Monday: 23 of 35 for 211, one touchdown to Makai Lemon, one interception; "I think it was just good execution," he said of the offense (philadelphiaeagles.com, Oct 27). Daniels, for comparison, ranks 11th in rating (97.6) among the 32 leaders, 1st in interception rate (zero), and 24th in sack rate (7.9%).

Coaching staffs tenure, experience, and what the beat has said this season

Eagles

  • Nick Sirianni, head coach since Jan 24, 2021; Wikipedia's infobox listed 61–31 regular season and 6–4 in the playoffs when fetched Oct 28, with its 2026 line still at 2–4 before Monday's loss. Won Super Bowl LIX after the 2024 season. After Dallas: "It's never just one thing when you give up a bunch of yards like that" (philadelphiaeagles.com, Oct 27). The Inquirer's Oct 28 notebook calls his future with the team "in question" and gives the Eagles a 4% playoff chance by The Athletic's simulator.
  • Sean Mannion, offensive coordinator, hired Jan 29, 2026: the fifth offensive coordinator in five years, after Kevin Patullo was let go Jan 13. Nine NFL seasons as a quarterback, then Packers offensive assistant (2024) and quarterbacks coach (2025).
  • Vic Fangio, defensive coordinator since 2024; in May he said "I'm good for two years, at least" (NBC Sports Philadelphia). The league's oldest coordinator.
  • Michael Clay, special teams coordinator; Parks Frazier coaches the quarterbacks.

Commanders

  • Dan Quinn, head coach since Feb 3, 2024; 12–5 and an NFC Championship Game loss to these Eagles in 2024, 5–12 in 2025, 1–4–1 now. Career 61–63–1 regular season and 5–3 in the playoffs per Wikipedia's infobox (fetched Oct 28), including 43–42 and a Super Bowl LI loss with Atlanta. Monday, on the Eagles week: "I'd love to have all four quarters together" (commanders.com, Oct 26).
  • David Blough, offensive coordinator, promoted from assistant quarterbacks coach Jan 9, 2026 at age 30; a former NFL quarterback who started coaching in 2024. First-time play-caller.
  • Daronte Jones, defensive coordinator, hired Jan 27, 2026 from the Vikings, where he was defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator for three seasons. Also a first-time NFL play-caller; Quinn said he runs his own system. Steve Wilks was added during the season to help with early-week defensive game planning (commanders.com, Oct 26).
  • Larry Izzo, special teams coordinator; D.J. Williams coaches the quarterbacks.

Missed tackles Philadelphia's number since Week 1, and Washington's

Philadelphia: 49 missed tackles, third-most in the NFL; Washington: 30, in a three-way tie for 21st with Jacksonville and New England (Pro Football Reference, via BetMGM, dated Oct 28 at 8:07 AM, so it includes Monday night). Denver leads with 56, Cleveland has 51, and the Lions have the fewest at 12. On a per-game basis the Eagles miss 6.0 a game (25th) and the Commanders 5.0 (16th), against a league average of 5.09 (nfllines.com, 2026 advanced defense table, fetched Oct 28).

Monday was the problem in one line. Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards, Javonte Williams 25 for 155 with a 34-yard run, and the Eagles' defense finished with zero sacks, zero tackles for loss and zero quarterback hits (ESPN box score 401873009). Zack Baun led the team with 9 tackles, only 2 of them solo. Sirianni: "It's never just one thing when you give up a bunch of yards like that."

Why it matters Sunday. Washington's run game is Daniels first (213 yards on 25 carries, 8.5 each) and a committee of White, Ekeler and McNichols second, and the committee ran 17 times for 53 yards at San Francisco. Daniels is the one ball carrier on either side who turns a missed tackle into 30 yards. On the other side, Barkley's 29-yard run Monday was the Eagles' longest play, and Washington's tackling has been league-average; if Barkley sits, Philadelphia's backs are not the kind who break tackles on their own (Pierce 2.6 a carry).

Team totals: sports.betmgm.com "NFL Teams With Most Missed Tackles This Season" (Oct 28, 2026, via PFR). Per-game rates: nfllines.com advanced defense, tackles missed, 2026 (fetched Oct 28). Reassessment Mack's line and pick against the market, and what would move them

Where the board stands. Mack's line is Commanders −6.0 with Washington at 67% straight up; the market (DraftKings via ESPN, frozen at the board build) is Commanders −5.5 and 40.5, and ESPN's Matchup Predictor gives Washington 64.1%. The half-point gap is not an edge worth chasing on its own; the pick is Washington because the ratings already price in a backup quarterback, an offensive line missing two starters to retirement and trade, and a defense that just gave up 204 rushing yards. ESPN's odds panel also shows an earlier number that reads as Eagles −2.5 and 46.5, but the page does not label it as the open; Football Nation recorded a FanDuel opening snapshot of Washington −3.5 and 40.5 on Oct 26. Either way the move has been toward Washington since Hurts went on IR.

What would change it. Barkley is the swing. With him the Eagles have the one player on the field Washington's 31st-ranked run defense cannot handle, and the spread side goes to even; without him Philadelphia's offense is McKee throwing to Lemon and Goedert, and the number should be higher than 6. On Washington's side, Mitchell's injury status for the Eagles and Omenihu's return are the next two inputs; Mariota only matters if Daniels is hurt. Under the formula a non-QB out costs −0.5, doubtful −0.3, questionable −0.15, capped at −2.5 a side; the Eagles carry seven questionables into Wednesday, Washington three.

Mack's view (judgment, not the formula). The Over at 40.5 is the stronger of the two calls. Washington's games have averaged 50.7 total points (304 in six), its defense allows 28.7 a game and an 81.8% opponent red-zone touchdown rate (Football Nation, via NFL.com), and the Eagles' seven games have still averaged 43.1 even with this offense. The Eagles have 24, 24, 7, 20, 17, 14 and 21; the Commanders have allowed 24, 37, 31, 30, 27 and 23. Two bad defenses and one mobile quarterback get past 40 more often than not.
